Optimus
Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, is designed to walk on two legs and use its arms and hands to interact with the physical world. It uses AI to understand and map its surroundings, similar to Tesla’s cars.
Optimus can perform a variety of tasks, including babysitting, walking dogs, mowing lawns, getting groceries, and serving drinks. Musk envisions a future where Optimus will be able to understand and follow spoken commands, such as “pick up that bolt, attach it to the car with that wrench”.
Once mass production begins, Optimus is expected to cost between $20,000 and $30,000.
Musk has compared Optimus to the droids R2D2 and C3PO from Star Wars.
Musk has said that Optimus will be a “fundamental transformation for civilization” and a contributor to a future of abundance. He has also said that he believes all jobs could be automated before 2100. ”
