How to avoid AI scams as we enter into a world filled with it.
With consumers losing $8.8 billion to fraud in 2022 and that number increasing every year, according to the Federal Trade Commission, we need to be more cautious. Here at Southern Cal Telecom, we are receiving more questions and want to do our due diligence in research to provide the answers. Here is what we have found:
Common AI Scams
You are used to online scams but these are a little advanced. AI is capable of creating text, voice mimic, and believable images- so this all makes it easier to scam.
Phishing Emails: Improper grammar, misspellings are the giveaways to these emails we are all used to. Wonder why the never figured that out and made the adjustments they needed to convince us better? Well AI did. This means more victims to open links that will lead your computer to it’s grace or your passwords to their new owner.
Fake News/Media Videos and Images: Click bait, as they call it… get ready for a much more believable story. Taylor Swift gets married in Vegas to Travis K type of believable.
AI Chatbots: Customer service reps turned AI. This is already happening on Facebook- AI bots pretending to be a representative threatening to shut your account down if you do not provide information or click on a link
